Are there any special events that take place in summer in your country?

I do not think of any special events that are planned by the central government this summer. However there are so many festivals and events organized by local governments. Incheon city will host Asian games this summer from Sep. 19th through Oct. 4th. Around 20 Asian countries will be participating in the event this time. Other festivals are Busan Sand Festival, Mud Festival in Boryoung, International Lighting Lantern festival in Pohang, Chicken-Rib festival in Chunchun, and so on. In Korea, local governments or districts are fiercely competing with each other to lure people to their places. There are two reasons for local governments to be so aggressive and strive to organize events. It is to promote its own city or government, which can help to boost its local economy. The second reason is to contribute to improving its financial deficit because most of local governments suffer from heavy debt. Above all, the governor or the district head try to get votes from his/her citizens.
