In my perspective, concentrating only on modern treatment led to increased inequality among healthcare. In Korea, the budget on healthcare is immensely concentrated on modern treatment and old treatments are undermined. The reason is from misconception that only modern medication is scientifically proved through multiple rounds of clinical trials and various research papers which are very expensive. According to the research, it costs US$1 million to US$5 million to do first round of clinical trials and there are five rounds of those which entail increased prices. Most of these trials are supported by major pharmaceutical companies but most of the clinical trials of public or university hospitals are largely funded by government. Since most of the budgets are concentrated on contemporary treatment, the traditional ones miss opportunity to prove themselves. Since traditional treatment cured patients from longer time span, the older type of medication also has competitive.
