course introduction

This course intends to introduce various audiovisual translations specialized in transferring multimodal texts into another language and culture. In the process, students will be encouraged to use multimedia electronic system. Interlinguistic subtitling, the most extensively studied mode of multimedia translation, will be explored through various forms including films, dramas, Ted, webtoons and OTT. In the meantime, appropriate electronic editing tools will be attempted to produce individual and team translation projects. This course also aims to discover fan-subtitled version of a foreign film or foreign television program, translated by fans, as opposed to an officially licensed translation done by professionals, to imbue fun in the fabric of multimedia translation study.
