First of all, I would like to say that I am not a doctor. I am a radiation therapy technologist who deliver radiation to a cancer patients for treatment purpose. Radiation therapist do CT scan in order to acquire CT image for radiation therapy planning and do treatment planning with dedicated computer and then deliver radiation to the patients with the machine which generate very high dose radiation.
When we take a CT image, we sometimes inject the contrast medium through vein to visualize the blood vessel well. However, it has a side effect that might cause patient death. So, medical staff have to explain about the side effect in detail and get sign from patients.
I didn\'t have any experience that patients died during CT scan so far. I have heard that it is possible for patients to be died if they have a side effect of the contrast medium. It is reported that using the contrast medium has a side effect, but if patients would like to be diagnosed, they needed to be injected the contr
