In my perspective, cultural attitudes have little relationship to the spending habit. In some cases, culture influence people’s spending habit such as Jewish who are well-known for being thrift and saving. However, it is extremely rare. Confucianism ideology promotes thrifts, wise spending and high saving, viewing excessive spending and luxury as inappropriate. China and Korea are influenced culturally on Confucianism but both countries are well-known for splurging on luxury goods. Accordingly, I believe that spending habits have closer relationship with personality. Even though Koreans are traditionally taught to be frugal, many people are eager to be followers and leaders of all trends. They tend to purchase what influencers and celebrities have. Also, they are eager to splurge on products and services which are regarded as trendy. When a make-up item becomes viral in Korea, it is extremely difficult to get one because people get one even though it does not match their color type.
