Do people achieve greatness only by finding out what they are especially good at and developing that

I think the greatness come from other people's respect. People want to believe the greatness come from their selves. However if someone admire from other people, they can't feel their greatness. There is a word, "the complement make a whale dance.". If someone poor at doing something, people are not respect him/her. For example, Kim-Yuna is good at figure skating, so people respect her. Also, because Bill Gates invent the MS program, he can get a greatness from others. If they are poor at each others genre, people can't admire them. So if someone really want to get a greatness, he/she must good at something.
