The corporate criminals could be corporations, employees, or company executives. Corporate crimes are falsifying information on financial statements, manipulating the stock market, bribery of public officials, false claims in advertising, embezzlement and damage caused to the environment due to negligence. Corporate crimes are being committed on large and small scales every day. It is somewhat true that many white collar criminals have not been punished sufficiently for their crimes even though the crimes were serious enough to cause the death of many civilians and incur the substantial amount of tax payers’ money. Such examples are falsified financials and accounting fraud by Enron, an American energy company, that was revealed to have hid billions of dollars in debt from stockholders through accounting loopholes and falsified financial statements, Exxon’s oil spill near the Alaska shoreline, IBM’s illegal export of computers to a Russian nuclear lab, and so on.
