There two famous comedy programs that air every Sunday evening by two different broadcasting companies. They compete with each other and last for almost one and a half hours. Each show has about 10 short episodes for the 90 minutes. The viewing rate is quite high among young people.However, I rarely watch the shows because they are not funny at all to me. They don’t seem natural, but laughs are forced. The most important thing at a comedy show is that laughs should be derived naturally. However, regardless of how well they are performing, there is a problem with the audience’s attitude as well. Especially, Korean audience is notorious for their rigid, closed, and bureaucratic attitude toward a comedy show.They watch such shows not with open mind, but rather like a judge or an evaluator. They seem like they shouldn’t laugh even if they are funny. If they crack up, they think they lose their face and damage their image of dignity. Some high profile people always keep their stern face.
