In fact, Most parents want to raise thier children as smart, polite and better person. When thier chidren would be adults, they can under stand that why their parents gave them punishment. So it is not easy to answer the question. To be specific, If someone achieved their goal like getting a job that recognized from the people, entering the prestige university etc. They will think that thanks to their parents, they could do that.
But Someone will be filled with hate for their parents incase of good results. I think that to guide them in right direction, it takes neccessarily actions but we have to reflect on themselves because it is one of greed for their childeren.

For one, it is difficult to reckon a precise instance in our lives when we were beaten or hit because of being mischievous or when we misbehaved. However, I totally agree that we can very well remember when our parents had given us tough love because they only wanted the best for us specially in behaving in the presence of others.
Someday, you will better understand the essence of beating or not beating your own child and by then, you might have a different answer from what you have stated to my question. Perhaps, you might have the same answer but a more profound perspective.
