You are good with the tense of verb spicifically the past tense. However we got the incorrect with the sentences in the passive voice. ACTIVE VOICE - the subject is doing the action. PASSIVE VOICE - the action is done to the subject. Let us try some example: She kicked the ball. (She which is the subject did the action kick to the ball) The ball was kicked by her. ( The ball which is the subject received the action kick done by her) Let us see the sentence inyour homework. One day he was woken up by the heavy storm. (PASSIVE VOICE) Let us do the active voice. The heavy storm woke him up. Here is a simple rule for passive voice:  ACTIVE VOICE                                  PASSIVE VOICE He sings a song.                           A song is sung by him. He sang a song.                           A song was sung by him. The verb in the passive voice is always in the past participle form but still follows the the proper tense of verb.
