I don't think people achieve more success by cooperation than by competition. We are more familiar with competition than cooperation. We also have been taught about competition and living in the competitive environment. In fact, we can have competition with ourselves, even though it is our toughest opponent. However, if competition truly brings out the "beast" in us, then some research demonstrates that cooperation surely brings out the "best" in us. They also say that more students feel good about themselves as learners when they cooperate and their self-esteem goes up. Contrarily, we can compete with another person, team, business, or country. Therefore, cooperation is not located far from competition. To win our team, we must compete another team and we must cooperate with our team members, fully displaying the team-spirit. If success comes too easily, there is no reason to work very hard. Nevertheless, we must be on our guard against the tendency that our culture embrace a win-at-all-costs philosophy.
