To tell the truth, my name was renamed to a better new one when I graduated from my middle school. It was because my old name was difficult to call and messy to hear. My friends used to poke fun at me with my name. Most Korean names consist of three characters including their family and given names. Koreans traditionally follow their family name like in other countries. We, however, additionally has to use a character of the two given name characters according to the family tree. It means that Koreans don't have the much right of choice in terms of naming. Grandfathers usually make their children's name, while the younger generations tend not to follow the family's rule. Instead, they choose Korean pure words to make names, which sound beautiful. Some people still visit famous naming centers and buy the best name for their children. It's because they believe that someone's name could affect his or her destiny. There are much more invisible things than visible ones in the universe.
