About a year ago,I watched the go board game contest between AlphaGo, Google's AI program and a Korean top player on TV. After the final match, the human player said,"AlphaGo made me realize that I must study go more." Badook(go in Japanese) is known as one of the most complicated and sophisticated games in the world with the number of tremendous cases. That is why the game needs in-depth strategic and creative thinking. However, the machine gamer surprisingly defeated the human. The important thing is that the AI program continues to extremely quickly learn and evolve by itself. When it comes to computer-assisted translation tools or AI translation programs, nowadays, they are often useful for getting the gist of a text. I believe that they have a long way to go for the time being before they can replace a human translator. No matter how fast the machine translators are, we doubt they can perfectly translate subtle expressions of emotion in literature. In the case of novel translations, creativity and human input seem essential. Now, it is safe to say that machine translators can perform about 80 to 90% of human experts due to the fact that they still make absurd mistakes. However, as AlphaGo won the game, in the near future, AI programs could replace human translators and human translators might perform just proofreading. Even if so, I don't think AI programs will be able to talk to my foreign friends on behalf of me, because it is just a tool. Therefore, we need to practice English more.
