Some important discoveries are not the result of planned research or experiments. Some are literally based on luck or discovered accidentally. For example, Nobel cut his finger during an experiment and he used collodion as a liquid bandage. Collodion left on Nobel's finger was mixed with nitroglycerin and Nobel found nitroglycerin was changed. He got an idea from this and invented explosive gelatin. These kind of not planned inventions are quite common in many fields. However, even if luck played an important role in those discoveries, those discoveries are not only the result of pure luck. Inventors always think about the subject they studied and have keen insight. Finally, they don't miss slight differences and lead them to great inventions and discoveries. Therefore, consistent concentration and focusing on one subject are quite important to discover something.

I agree that not all important discoveries are made from planned research or experiments.
Most of the time, the greatest breakthroughs especially in Science are accidentally discovered.
A great example for this would be the discovery of the first antibiotic which is penicillin.
Penicillin came from molds which accidentally grew in a petri-dish in Doctor Alexander Fleming\'s laboratory.
Needless to say, this important and yet \"accidental\" discovery paved the way to advanced treatments of different types of diseases.
Anyhow, I think this is mind-blowing. kkk.
