When I was in the army, just a year after one of my subordinate officers got married, he got divorced. That was because his wife got a very decent job as a public official. She must have been influenced by her sister who had been living as a single with a stable job. About ten years ago when I was in Canada, I was so surprised at the fact that too many young people no longer felt the need to get married. That's why living together without marriage was the general trend of the society. Recently, single young women and even men who don't think of marriage in Korea have been exponentially increasing. Therefore, avoiding marriage tends to exist among not only young women but also young men. Let's put young men's issue aside. For young women, the financial security from their stable income must be one of the reasons why they don't get married. I believe that there is another reason why they are not into marriage. Young women have grown up witnessing how much hard and unfree their mothers' life is due to caring for her husband and children. Most of countries still maintain some unreasonable traditions, customs and practices towards women. Young women no longer want to be restricted and enslaved. With their status in the society improved and with their income stable. they began to pay attention to their own life. I believe this trend is females' powerful protest and resistance against males. Without men's serious reflection for their past wrongdoings and thoughts, they won't be able to hear females' mellifluous voices any more.
