Cooperation and competition are both necessary to achieve success. It depends on the situation and people can choose between cooperation and competition to make a good result. In a situation like getting good grades in SAT, competition would be a better strategy for students rather than cooperation. In contrast, works based on team play like baseball or soccer, individuals should cooperate with each other to win. Each players want to show their own ability but they can't just focus on showing themselves alone. I heard that some people say even in situations like SAT, choosing cooperation is more effective than being competitive. I think if the test is an absolute evaluation, then individuals can be cooperative. In that case, the only opponent in the exam is no one but the student him/herself. However if the exam is a relative evaluation, I don't think being cooperative is possible. In conclusion, being cooperative and choosing competitive way are both needed according to situations.
