There seem to be two kinds of advice. One is simple and light, so giving or taking them is not that serious at all. But the other is relatively big and heavy, so giving or taking them could be unpleasant even between close friends. In fact, we don't exactly know what good advice is. Most people are well aware of their shortcomings and flaws, and they are trying to make up for their weak points. The moment when someone listens to other's advice, people might feel ashamed as if their privacy is exposed and the self-esteem is damaged. I belong to those who seem to think that the advice given makes sense, but do nothing about it. In the tactical doctrine, offenders need about three times more combat power than defenders to win some battles. We could adapt this army theory to advisers' qualification. Advisers have to own more experiences and knowledge in regard to the advice than listeners. It is very wise that I let my friend notice the advice I want to give. I tend not to give advice except in the case that someone asks for it. Therefore, if you want to give some advice to your friend, you need to beforehand make the proper situation that your friend can ask for it.
