HOMEWORK

I clearly remember what I experienced concerning 'caught red-handed' when I was a little child(two or three years old). Korea was extremely poor about 60 years ago. Almost everyone was poor because it was the time when the Korean war just ended. My father was a public official in a small village, so his income must have been way humble. Two meals a day were not unusual at the time. Therefore, children were growing up not knowing 'snack' which could be regarded as sort of extravagance. One day, my elder sister who was carrying me on her back was hanging about a small grocery store in my village. She quickly snatched a few pieces of candy from the display stand and put one of them into my mouth. Then she was pushing the one or two in her mouth when the owner noticed that. She was caught red-handed. The owner swore hard and slapped her face twice roughly. I was so surprised at the scene and could never forget not only my sister's unaccountable behavior and the owner's severe slapping but also the sweet taste of the candy.
