Last week, Korean government conducted random inspections of hotels near Gwanghwamun area. Their goal was to prevent hotels from making undue profit from the high demand because of the BTS concert. There were some cases that hotels increased the price two- to three – folds. However, I doubt the illegitimacy of hotel profiting from big events. The price of hotels is decided based on supply and demand. Organically, the price of hotels increases when their demand outpaces the supply. Also, the price of the hotel increases when the reservation is made close to the event. Moreover, it is more expensive during the weekend and holiday. Unfortunately, Hybe announced event late January, and it is on March 21st which is Saturday. Due to the large fandom and free of charge, the demand is extremely high. Hybe announced they will distribute over 20,000 tickets. Combining these three factors, the high price is inevitable and it is corporation’s right to seek profit.
