Considering the length and complexity of the thesis, it is not easy for teachers to distinguish originals. Therefore, many universities own tools to discern plagiarism. However, professors could take on several duties. The first task is related to pressure. Since there are few Ph.D. candidates each year, those students are bombarded with works other than writing the paper. There is even a joke that receiving a Ph.D. degree in a Korean university is like getting a slave contract. Being a teaching assistant is one example. Sometimes, Ph.D. students do errands for professors. Since students are overloaded with unrelated work, there is not much time to concentrate on their academic careers. The second is related to funding. Korea competes for the last regarding research funds. With a lack of resources, most financing is forwarded to STEM education. Therefore, other majors do not receive financial support, decreasing motivation for many students.
