How do you think western families and eastern families differ?

I think one of the biggest difference between western and eastern families is degree of family bond. The way I think, eastern families tend to think their family prior to each individual. On the other hand, western families tend to respect individual\'s choice, especially their children\'s choice. It would not be right but I think so. Also, I think most of eastern families are be affected by Chinese cultures and religions like Confucianism, Buddhism. So, I guess the reason eastern families think their bonds are important comes from these effects from cultures and religions.
