Whenever I’m asked about how the difference of winter between countries, I always think of my first trip to Thailand during the winter. On the day of my departure, a blizzard was hitting the airport so hard that all flights were almost cancelled. Thankfully, my plane managed to take off, and after four hours of flying, I arrived in a completely different world. The moment I looked out the window, I was speechless. Everything—temperature, the clothes people wore —was the total opposite of winter in Korea. I took off my heavy winter coat and started walking around in the short-sleeve shirt and shorts I had layered under my thick clothing. The contrast between Korea’s freezing winter and Thailand’s tropical heat was unforgettable. Korea used to have cold winters, but over the past decade, winters have become noticeably milder. This trend is largely linked to climate change, which continues to gain momentum. Like other countries, we are making efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
