It means the tissues around prostate would interfere the full-voiding, making his bladder not to work well. Anyway, he is well now but has to check regulary his prostate and voiding function because of his old age (72 years old). Actually, before this unfortunate event, he has kept healthy a long time, so I believe he will recover soon.
