When I went to the Hongkong two years ago, I tried ordering some food in English, but I noticed that the waiter and I don\'t speak English well either. So, I just said \'this, this, and this please.\'
And when I went to the local market in Hongkong, I tried discounting for t-shirt. I was really nervous, and prepared how to discount things, what can I say this situation in English. But when I said 30% discount please, and they accepted this request right away. So, it was too easy that I couldn\'t use English phrases.
I will try ordering some food on Tokyo trip because I felt that Japanese are more kind when they hear English. If there are young staffs in restaurant, I\'ll try ordering in English. If there are kind of older staffs, I\'ll order in Japanese like usual.
Sometimes I watch the video like really ordering in USA, how to speak in English in restaurant, and so on. But It\'s so much fast for me, then I feel like I\'m not yet.

Ordering food in English means that you are eating a foreign food or a restaurant that is not so ordinary. Thus, etiquette is a must especially when you are with someone or a group of people.
When I was in Macau, the dining staff were Filipinos so we spoke in our language like we were in the Philippines. However, in our city, people always speak English in restaurants as a standard protocol.
I think you do pretty well in speaking in English when it comes to ordering food. After all, when you have money to buy food, it is not really quite a problem. The words and expressions in English are short and direct. When you have food allergies, just inform the staff right away.
Haggling is another thing in purchasing things. You need to be charming to get negotiate properly aside from fluency. Nonetheless, speaking well in the local language of the people is still the best.
