I asked teacher.

I asked teacher about '~s'.
Sometimes '~s' is pronounced [s], sometimes [z].
I found the naver dictionary.
When 'girls and boy' is pronounced 'girl [z] and boy [z]'
When 'The girls played' is pronounced 'girl[s]'
I'm confused.

Hi Sun,
English sounds were really confusing but don't let it discourage you to keep learning.
Keep these general rules in pronouncing ending/fina "s" sound.Rule 1: When the last
sound in the base word ends in a voiceless sound. use the voiceless ending /s/ Rule 2:
When the last sound in the base word ends in a voiced (vibrated) sound. use the voiced ending /z/
Have a great day!
