I remembered the time when I lived in Sheffiled, city in UK in 2008 for five months. That was my first time to live in a foreign village about half of year. I was not tourist at that time so I had enough time to walk all around village after school. Naturally, I compared their foods, products, houses and roads to those of Korean. Thus, this comparison makes me cautious about different characters that objects owned. And some idea occurred to me that using those objects as my art works. This series of work contains my belongings, products from UK markets and gifts from my foreign friends. They were meaningful to me as useful products, unique souvenir or memorable reminiscence. However, I put them together to make anonymous objects and named them ‘Poetic Monuments’. Actually, I think this work is related with word game or joke, which pretend to be serious. By doing so, I could find way to intervene my surrounding more freely. When I stay home I observe my cat’s unpredicted behavior. Particularly, movement of his tail can express his emotion without any words. Since I have lived with the cat, I always surprise to how I can understand his innate gestures and feel empathy with him. In addition, he occupies the house more provocatively, jumping on the shelves or creeping under the bed. I think he respond to every elements in my house, high and low level of house structures, gaps between furniture, telephone ring, television sound and small rustling sound from the mother in the blanket.
