In my perspective, parents act as a primary shaper of beliefs. They act as the role model by influencing a child’s socialization and identity and teaching positive and negative values. Therefore, if hatred is learned, I believe it is parents’ responsibility to understand children’s prejudice and steer them in a good direction. Parents are the first social beings that children encounter. Children learn by mimicking how parents talk about, treat and react to others from different backgrounds. By projecting fears or showing prejudice, parents can instill hatred. Speaking of Bondi Beach incident, there were two suspects: son and dad. It was obvious that dad instilled extreme Islamic ideology to his son. This is because the son was grown up in Australia surrounded by diverse people. Many people say that environments shape personality of a kid. However, I believe that the parenting style shapes the child first because it is difficult to reject deeply rooted influences in the young age.
