There are two big holidays in Korea what is called Seolnal which is New Year’s Day in accordance with Lunar calendar and Chuseok that is Korean Thanks Giving day. On Seolnal, family members get together and reunite. People typically visit their home towns where their parents are living or have lived regardless of how far they are. They are willing to travel for many hours, longer than 10 hours in some extreme cases. Most parents are waiting for and desperate to see their children and grand-children. On Seolnal’s morning, all of the family members visit their ancestors’ graves and bow in front of the graves after putting some food on the alters. In addition, children bow to their parents to show their respect and appreciate for what they have been given. In return, parents give their children money called Saebaedon and a few words of blessing. Family members catch up and play games together. When I was younger, we used to visit our relatives who lived in the same town.
