Is freedom of speech necessary in a free society?

Basically it is. However, we have to consider some requirement of the citizen who speaks freely. It is the same aspect with the fact that the freedom doesn't mean indulgence. In other words, a person who speak freely of something should take responsibility of the thing that he speaks. The church that I attend has a little parking space, as compared to my church members. So some leaders suggest us to use the public transportations such as subway and bus when we come to church on Sundays. It is a good sugggestion because too many people who use their car in church may bring a lof of congestion and trouble to other church members and the neighbors. However, we could not have any restriction to car-users because it's just suggestion and we live in a free society. However, if the church members could find a leader who insist using bus driving a car to the church, we may not blame him officially because it is his freedom. Instead, we wouldn't listen to him any more.

Freedom of speech thereby symbolizes nation\'s freedom~ If we are free to express what we want, it means that we live in a democratic country, free from oppressive rules.
