Is identity something people are born with or given, or is it something people create for themselves

I think that personality is created by themselves. Yes, people have their natural personality such as sensitive or active. However if someone had a great shocked, their personalty suddenly changed. Even sometimes after teenage their personality was suddenly changed. For example, I naturally have very sensitive but very active personality. However just right after I entered middle school my personality has completely changed to introverted. There wasn't any trauma or accidents, it just suddenly changed. So I believe people can change their own personality. Especially if they desperately want to change their personality, no matter how much hard to do that, they can change it.
