Standardized examinations have pros and cons. These examination formats allow students to digest large amounts of information. However, it comes with sacrificing the opportunity to consume quality information. This is because standardized examinations come with multiple choices and short answered questions. Therefore, students tend to memorize exact answers and not question and contemplate the information. These types of examinations benefit students from a younger age when they need to digest a wide array of facts. However, as they grow older, there is a growing need to apply information differently and narrate the answers thoroughly because the complex issues will not conclude with simple yes-or-no answers. Experts say Korea has a high education level since 98.8% of Koreans are literate and one of the top performers among OECD nations. However, this is mostly based on cramming education from standardized examination. When Koreans are exposed to complicated issues, they tend to forgo.
