<Media>-Essay (2014.02.22) Do you watch 2014 winter olympics in Sochi these days? Every person who lives in this world is interested in it and also wants to go Sochi to see the olympic games in real. But, people of all around the world can't go Sochi to see winter olympic, because the olympic stadiums have limit of sitting capacity. Then the rest of people who couldn't go there are impossible to watch the olympic games? The answer is no. We can watch it on television, because television is a sort of media. If so, what is media? And what are their sorts and roles? When we say media, most of people think about television. But there are many sorts of media not only television but also internet(news), social network site such as naver, youtube, google, facebook, kakaotalk, newspaper, radio, twitter and so on. Then what is the criterion of media? Naver encyclopedia defines that media is a one of tools to deliver any ideas or the truths as mediums and methods. And also it define the media that is a vehicle to deliver affairs and effects. SNS such as facebook, kakaotalk, twitter are thought also the media, because the user of those, us are informational beings. Like those, if we look at our daily life, we could find our figure that gain many affairs opening in all around the world right away through various media. But there are some problems of some medias. first, the part of television, one of the medias doesn't put out only the news of information. It also puts out various program for entertaining to information recipients. It's good to entertain people, but it loses the most important thing more and more. All of media's the most important role is offer the truth information to people. But these days, it puts out lots of entertaining program more than news that gives us information. And also, it puts out gimmicky news such as idol star's scandals to cover up very important social issues and affairs like a corruption scandals implicating incumbent lawmakers. Do you remember the strike of MBC? The reason of it is blocking to put out MBC reporter's news-gathering. MBC reporters want to put their report without any conditions, but MBC's high-ranking officers against their ask, and order not to put out government's bad affairs. Because, they are too pro-government and lopsided. News should put out the truth of everything, it shouldn't has any private feeling and thinking. Or not, it becomes chirashi which has specific private feeling and thinking. More famous and public broadcasting companies such as MBC should be qualified the supreme fairness and ethicality like BBC and CNN, because it is the public TV. And also the media of Hangyeorye newspaper has problem. It reports many social affairs and issues with too lopsided opinions about social issues. In the way that MBC and Hangyeorye newspapaer are public media, it has to put out the facts without any private feeling and thinking. It violated one of the media's important roles. I think media can spread some affairs or issues to many people all around the world, so media has to have responsibility to bring us the truth with no lopsided ways. To bring various information, it should be certain, only tell the truth and don't report on lopsided ways. If it doesn't report based on these things that reporters need to be aware of, it can occur mass and misunderstanding to recipients like us. Media have to be faithful with their original important roles, because, we have the right to know the fact of affairs in all around the world.
