I would like to know why the answer " was feeling" is correct grammtically. 3. Diane __has felt______ (feel) very sick but she decided to go out anyway. was feeling has been feeling has felt >>> was feeling In my grammatical knowledge, the progressive form cannot be used for the verbs meaning sense, emotion, and possession, etc. Basically, progressive form tense shows that things are keeping going by Will of Subject like "I am seeing a car"(I can stop seeing it whenever I want), therefore, if the verb itself has the meaning of progress, it doesn't need to be expressed with Progressive form in sentences. For example; The food is tasting bitter(x). Since the taste of bitterness exists continually regardless of will of the food, the sentence cannot be used in progressive form. On the other hand, \"Diane has felt very sick but she decided to go out anyway.\" is also correct because the meaning is the same. The only difference is that, you used plain past tense.
