Reasons behind crime.

It is a common belief that poverty is a major reason behind most crimes. This is likely to capture the truth when it comes to a variety of petty crimes such as robbery and pickpocketting. As it is exemplified in a renowned novel \'Les Miserable\', the main character steals a piece of bread since he has starved for such a long time. Readers can understand his misbehavior and actually it is very empathetic, which means individuals who are suffering from extreme poverty could be inclined to commit such crimes. However, it should be pointed out that there are far more severe crimes, such as bribery and sexual harrassment, that cannot be attributed to poverty as their main reason. What makes the situation worse is that those crimes are highly likely to have an impact on the general public not directly involved in the crime scene. If a politician makes an important decision in favor of a corporation since he was bribed by it, then many innocent people could be in danger of being victimized.
