It is safe to say that, back in hundreds years ago, people had different taste in music based on the social stratification. The distinction among social classes was an essential of the societal order, thereby the laypeople were not allowed to take a glance at kinds of music enjoyed by the priviledged. However, as time goes by, the rigid class-based separation has been superseded by the equalitarian ideal, though the huge gap between the rich and the poor is still remained and get more subtle. However, thanks to state-of-the-art technology and handy gadgets, individuals are now exposed to various genres of music and the cost of listening to those is cheaper than ever. They are able to look up songs according to their tastes whenever they want, using smartphone applications regardless of their current financial status. In conclusion, the relations between social class and music genre could hardly be found in comtemporary societies due to the widespread use of personalized IT equipment.
