One way is build up of sand.
Small pieces of mountain fall off and become sand.
This sand fall bottom of lake or river, and over time it becomes rock.
Sand rock is made this way.
Second way is cooling of hot liquid rock.
There is hot liquid rock under the ground and sometimes it comes out and cools down.
It becomes solid rock.
