Music plays a vital role in the contemporary society in which a number of populations are suffering from the unprecedented crisis caused by the coronavirus. Due to the COVID-19 itself and draconian restrictions that have been imposed by many governments on any kinds of human contact and movement, many people are enduring not only physical problems but also mental disorders such as depression. While we cannot meet someone who help us alleviate our stress by sharing devastating experiences and cheering up each other, music could fill the void. It allows us to express our emotion freely and to forget negative thoughts and feelings even though these effects last only for a short period of time. On top of that, thanks to the widespread use of smartphone, we are able to share songs that have stirred our emotion and relieved our tension with others via diverse social network services. In this respect, music creates emotional bond among people and becomes a cornerstone for social solidarity.
