The origin of name of the Typhoon The Typhoon is derived from Typhon which is the monster in Greek myth. Typhon was born from Gaea, the goddess of the earth, and Tartarus, the god of dark. Typhon was the giant erupting fire and had the head with 100 snakes. He was very violent. Typhon often invaded the territory of Zeus, the god of gods, and tried to violate his sovereignty. But eventually Typhon was killed by the lighting of Zeus. Someone says Zeus deprived Typhon of his all power except for his storm power. So after that people called violent storm the Typhoon because of storm resemble the violence of Typhon. And then Typhoon was named after women's name. But this method had to be changed by the strong protest of groups which try to improve the woman's right. After that 'Asia-Typhoon association' was made by 14 countries in Asia. Countries each suggested around 10 Typhoon's name which they wanna call. For example Rusa, Sas, Mae-mi etc. This is the origin of name of the Typhoon.
