The result of General Election

The surprise outcome came out in the 20th national general election. Of 253 electorate seats in the parliament (congress), the ruling party took 105 seat, while the major opposition party took 110 seats. The second opposition party took 25 seats. Even if adding the proportional seats, the ruling party will end up occupying 123 seats out of 300 seats, while the major opposition party will take 122 seats. The result is somewhat contradictory to the polls that have been conducted before the election. Almost all of the surveys estimated that the ruling party would dominate the seats by taking up to 180 seats at the best. In general, old electorates tend to stand on the conservative side so that they support the ruling party. Analyzing the current demographics, elderly people outnumber young voters who generally support the opposition party. The voting turn-out rate of young generation is quite low. All of these help the ruling party win the election. But it was different this time.
