things we want to get badly

When I was a kid (probably when I was about 6 or 7 years old), I was anxious to wear shiny black dress shoes, but my parents could not afford them (actually they could, but they didn’t see the values for money). I wanted to have a car when was in my 20’s. I bought a compact used car when I was 32. Having my own house was definitely on the top of my wish list. I bought my own house last year. Was I happy and joyful when I got them? Yes, of course, but the satisfaction or the level of jo was not proportional to the value of the goods. A new tennis racket was one of a few items I always wanted to have and when I finally got it, I was overwhelmed with joy: much happier than when I bought my own house. We might feel much happier when we achieve something by making an all-out effort than when we buy something with money. The harder you work to get or achieve it, the more joyful it will be.
