What advice will you say to a newly hired worker who is badmouthing his /her former employer?

There must be a reason to badmouth someone, whoever it is. I will first find out whether it is an objective fact to gossip about or a fairly subjective fact. In my experience, most people who gossip are weak in themselves, so they choose to put others down as a means of defense. I would try to understand the intentions of this newly hired worker rather than what he/she is saying, and to advise that badmouthing is only good for doing harm.
