It might have been changed a lot now compared with past practices when it comes to paying for dating. In the past, a man normally paid all the costs for dating. It was a man’s duty and responsibility to make a plan for dating. A woman was a bit passive and was a beneficiary of all the settings made by a man. As for a marriage, it almost became a social norm that a man should prepare a house: rent or own, but buying a house would be definitely more preferred by a woman. A bride-to-be buys furniture and household appliances such as a TV set, a fridge, an air conditioner, and so on. Before the marriage, a woman gives a man’s parents cash as wedding gifts. The money is used for a man’s parents to buy clothes or presents for their children and relatives. A man’s parents also send a woman’s parents cash as gifts. However, it is a practice that a man’s parents give them less amount of money that they received. Normally they return a half money they received or 30 percent at a minimum.

Sir [이름]!
I appreciate that you shared the customs in your country.

I think you mentioned about the responsibilities of both parties before and after getting married.

It is right for the both to work hard and make their life comfortable, right?

I hope that this custom also exists in my country, Hihihi!

Anyway, talk to you more in class. Have a great day!
