It goes without saying that I deeply appreciate it if someone gives me a gift. In general, there is no a specific thing that is considered not a good item as a gift in Korea. However, you should be conscious about whom, when, for what you are giving gifts. Depending on an occasion and circumstance, we need to carefully select a gift. Otherwise, your good will could not be well appreciated by the recipient. On thanks-giving day or New Year’s Day, we usually exchange food like fruits, meat, fish, etc. Some household items like a set of shampoo, tooth paste, and soap are given as well. Among family members, we often give cash to our parents as a gift whereas we do not do that between friends. For someone’s birthday, we try to figure out what he/she needs although we rarely ask him/her what he/she likes. Cloths are not usually recommended to give to our friends because he has his own taste. Above all, choosing a right give is a difficult job. The best gift is the thought that counts.
