Until about 20 years ago, koreans had suffered from the issues of santation and waste. Back then, in the summer time, sanitation trucks used to spray disinfecant to kill mosquitos on the street. But these days, we don't have a lot of mosquitos and flies because of severe high temperature and cleaness of the street. In 1995, korean government started to implement a plan to solve gargage issue . When we throw out the garbage, we should put it into standard plastic garbage bags and separate and send out the recyclable waste. Through this campaign, the amount of garbage has been decreased drastically these days. Sometimes, unmannered smokers throw out butts on the street. As the number of non-smoking area has been increased, the streets has become cleaner than before.
