Several European Union nations have recently eased the regulation of mask-wearing in the airplane with all the hassles. However, I believe several risks to abolishing the mask mandate in public transportation. First, there is a health risk with various confirmed cases of COVID-19. There was 12,048 infection with nine deaths in South Korea on June 4th which means a high fatality rate. Also, a study showed that risk rises in the closed area where many people gather, such as public transportation. Then there is a concern about social awareness. After COVID-19 is downgraded to level 2 infectious disease, many people have started to treat it like the flu. We are in the phase of lifting the mask mandates in outdoor activities. It would be too abrupt to expand such a measure to a place where many people gather. Accordingly, it is dangerous to lift the face mask regulation in the daily-used transportation.
