What do you think of bigamy and polygamy?

Morally, I think people should have a right to choose a living arrangement that suits the individuals. The assumption here is that all individual have a choice. In the case of polygamy, there is a likely chance that some of the wives may not have the choice. Within polygynous societies, only a righ and powerful man can afford to have more than one wife. In a lot of cases, the women are forced into these marriages, way under the age of consent. And, multiple wives often become a status symbol denoting wealth, power, and fame. Our society should protect the poor, weak people, and the underprivileged. Apart from all the social, political, and moral issues, I personally wonder why anyone would want another wife. It is hard for me to handle just one wife. Imagine having two bickering and nagging wives who may be in competition over you or over themselves, would you be happy with living in that way? How can you raise 10 or 20 children? Even raising one kid is a significant burdon for me.
