A month ago, I recently purchased a new smart phone G3.I paid around US 900 dollars (approximately 36,000 pesos.) Actually I am not that kind of person who is an early adapter or crazy about a new advanced gadget. However, I purchased a new phone a day before the new regulation was implemented on Oct. 1, 2014. The new law is related to the smart phone subsidy and distribution, mainly aiming to ban the mobile carriers from offering the excessive subsidy of more than 300,000 won per unit. The Apple iPhone 6 was launched last Friday in Korea and from midnight Saturday through Sunday morning last week, crowds lined up in front of smartphone stores to receive so-called guerrilla subsidies because they have been popping up since Friday, as retailers offer illegal subsidies of as much as 700,000 won although its regular price was 789,800 won.As a result, buyers were able to get their hands on the iPhone 6 for 4,000 to 8,000 pesos. I am not a big fan of iPhones, but I regret I missed the deal.
