What do you think of the idea of virtual pets, like Tamagotchi?

I do not agree on the idea of raising a virtual pet. As IT technologies advance, more sophisticated products or games that operate or simulate in the way that real animals do are rolled out in the market and draw attention especially from young people. Although I have not had an experience of raising a virtual pet like Tamagotchi, I think that it’s just another type of computer games. When we raise real animals like dogs, we feel, share, exchange emotions and commune with them. Advocates for virtual pets might insist that playing with them also contribute to creating sympathy between people and virtual pets, however, the level of communication and exchanging emotions are way different between raising a real pet and a virtual pet. How can you have the same feeling when you actually feed and touch your dog while you push the button on your artificial pet to follow the direction as the system is designed? I do not see any difference between normal computer games and virtual pets.
