University and umbrella, although starts with the letter u use different articles simply because of the pronunciation. University is pronounced [yoonuhvursitee] while umbrella is [uhmbrelluh]. How we place the correct article is not only based on the initial letter of a word but, also its pronunciation must be considered. Another example would be hour, we never say a hour, it’s always an hour.
