Absolutely, an appearance. I believe most of people can know whether he or she is handsome or beautiful. Of course, it depends on a standard of beauty. Without an appearance, thing that I can know at the first meeting is an attitude. Someone how to say and to act that I can know whether to be rude or not. :)
